DirtSync Privacy Policy

DirtSync is a real-time GPS location sharing app for off-road group rides. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

1. What We Collect

While you are in an active ride session, DirtSync collects and transmits the following:

• Display name — the name you type when joining a session. It can be a real name, callsign, or anything you choose.
• Precise GPS location — latitude, longitude, heading, and speed, updated every few seconds while the app is in use.
• Chat messages — text messages you send within a ride session.
• Session code — the code used to identify your ride group.

We do not collect your email address, phone number, payment information, contacts, photos, or any device identifiers.

2. How We Use It

All data collected is used for one purpose: displaying your location and messages to the other riders in your session.

• Your GPS location is broadcast to other session participants in real time.
• Your chat messages are visible to other participants in the same session.
• No data is used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the active ride session.

3. Background Location

DirtSync requests background location access so it can continue broadcasting your GPS position when the screen is off or you switch to another app. This is core to the app's function — without it, your marker would disappear from other riders' maps the moment you lock your screen.

Background location is only active while you are in an active ride session. You can stop it at any time by ending your session or stopping the background service from the app.

4. Data Sharing

Your location and messages are shared only with riders who have joined the same session using the same session code. Sessions are private — only someone with the exact code can join.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties beyond the infrastructure services listed below.

5. Third-Party Services

DirtSync uses the following third-party services to operate:

• Google Firebase Realtime Database — stores and syncs live location and chat data for active sessions. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Mapbox — renders the satellite map. Your device contacts Mapbox servers to download map tiles; this may include your approximate location to determine which tiles to load. Mapbox Privacy Policy

6. Data Retention

Session data (locations and chat messages) is stored in Firebase only while the session is active. Sessions are not permanently archived by DirtSync. Once a session expires or is deleted, the associated data is removed.

We do not maintain any long-term database of your location history.

7. Children

DirtSync is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

8. Your Rights

Because DirtSync does not maintain user accounts or long-term data records, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or delete. If you have concerns about data associated with a specific session, contact us at the address below and we will address it promptly.

9. Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS). Session data is accessible only to participants who know the session code.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
